The sequel to Heaven is For Real,Heaven Changes Everything provides more details about the family of Todd and Sonja Burpo and about little Colton’s visit to heaven that were not included in the original story or the movie. Now, that book will be turned into an NBC television series that highlights the life and faith of the Burpo family.
Rick Christian of Alive Literacy Agency said, “The first script has been ordered, and we’re reprising the same production team of Joe Roth, T.D. Jakes, and DeVon Franklin who quarterbacked Tri-Star’s Heaven is For Real motion picture last year that earned more than one hundred million dollars on a budget of twelve million dollars. It’s a proven team, and I’m thrilled to see the franchise expand from books to film and now to television, enabling a message about the hope of heaven to reach untold millions more via this mega-partnership.”
Heaven is for Real is the true story of three-year-old Colton, who almost died during an emergency appendectomy. Several months later he began revealing details of a visit to heaven, including events of his family’s life and history that he couldn’t have possibly known or imagined. Published by Thomas Nelson, the booksold more than twelve million copies, landing on the New York Times bestseller for more than two hundred weeks and a year-long seat in the #1 slot.
The show, written and executive produced by Randy Brown (Trouble with the Curve), will focus on Burpo’s smalltown pastor and his family. The pastor must discover the courage and faith to lead his congregation while balancing the excessive outside attention generated by his son’s stories of heaven.
